New Holland NH 1011 – TCU, EHR, or ACM: Height limit potentiometer signal too high

The electronic signal voltage coming from the height limit potentiometer is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. This usually points to a short circuit to a power source on the signal wire or an open circuit on the ground/return path, causing the system to disable draft control or limit hitch functionality.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the height limit knob under the armrest or side console for chafing, pinched wires, or disconnected pins.

   Check for continuity on the ground wire between the potentiometer connector and the chassis/ECU ground (an open ground is the most common cause of a signal too high code).

   With the key ON and engine OFF, probe the signal wire to ensure it is not shorted directly to a 12V power source.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and measure its internal resistance while turning the knob. If the resistance reads as an open circuit (infinite ohms) or jumps erratically, the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Console

   Remove the retaining screws for the operator's armrest control panel or the right-hand side console (depending on the tractor model) to access the underside of the hitch control knobs.

   Remove the Potentiometer

   Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the height limit potentiometer. Pull off the plastic operator knob from the top of the console, and remove the retaining nut holding the potentiometer in place.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the new potentiometer through the console, secure it with the retaining nut, and press the operator knob back onto the splined/D-shaped shaft.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor and reassemble the armrest/console plastics.

   Recalibrate

   Reconnect the battery and perform a Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration (associated with New Holland code 1024) to learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values of the replacement part.
