New Holland NH 1016 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module: L/H load sensing pin signal too low
Issue description
This code indicates that the signal voltage coming from the Left-Hand (L/H) load sensing pin (also known as a draft pin sensor) is below the normal operating range. This typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring, or a completely failed internal sensor. The load sensing pins measure the mechanical draft load on the lower lift arms to automatically adjust implement depth. When this signal fails, the tractor will likely disable draft control functionality.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the left-hand draft pin for physical damage, corrosion, or broken wires.
Verify that the sensor is receiving its reference voltage (typically an 8V reference from the controller) and has a good ground.
Swap the left-hand and right-hand load sensing pins. If the fault code changes to NH 1014 (R/H load sensing pin signal too low), the sensor itself is definitively dead. If the fault code remains NH 1016, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the EDC controller.
Repair steps
Relieve Tension
Lower the rear hitch completely and safely support the left lower link arm to remove all mechanical tension and weight from the draft pin.
Disconnect
Turn off the tractor battery disconnect switch. Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty left-hand load sensing pin.
Removal
Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt, retaining plate, or snap ring) securing the pin to the tractor chassis/lower link bracket. Slide the old pin out.
Installation
Clean the bore to remove dirt and rust. Slide the new load sensing pin into place, ensuring the alignment notch/flat is positioned correctly. Secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.
Calibration
Run the tractor's hydraulic lift calibration routine via the dash/armrest monitor to teach the EDC controller the baseline voltage of the new sensor (clears code NH 1024).
