New Holland NH 1017 – XCM (Multi-function Control Module) / Hitch Controller: Left Hand (L/H) Load Sensing Pin Signal Too High
Issue description
The voltage signal returning from the left draft load sensing pin (which measures the pulling draft load on the lower 3-point hitch links) is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. This is typically caused by a short circuit to +12 Volts in the wiring harness or a complete internal failure of the sensor.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the left lower link draft pin for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or damage that could cause the signal wire to short against a 12V power source.
Disconnect the left load sensing pin and check the connector for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.
Using a multimeter, check the sensor's 8V reference voltage.
Perform a component isolation (swap test) by swapping the left and right load sensing pin electrical connections. If the code changes to NH 1015, the pin itself has failed. If the code remains NH 1017, the short to +12V is located in the tractor's wiring harness or the XCM controller.
Repair steps
Relieve Tension
Lower the 3-point hitch to the ground or support the lower link arms to remove all physical tension and weight from the draft load sensing pins.
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the XCM/EDC modules.
Remove the Faulty Pin
Unplug the electrical connector from the left-hand load sensing pin. Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking plate, bolt, or snap ring) securing the pin to the tractor chassis/draft bracket.
Install the Replacement
Slide the old pin out, clean the bore, and insert the new load sensing pin. Secure it with the retaining hardware.
Alternative (Eliminator Kit)
If the operator does not use draft control (e.g., only does PTO or drawbar work), you can install a 'Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit.' This involves plugging a dummy module directly into the wiring harness to bypass the sensor, which permanently disables draft sensing but clears the fault code.
Reassembly
Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery.
Calibration
You must perform the Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration procedure. Replacing these sensors or clearing these codes will often trigger code NH 1024, which calibrates the new sensor's baseline voltage to the module.
