New Holland NH 1028 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Module: Maximum Lift arm position potentiometer too high
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the rear 3-point hitch lift arm position sensor that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This is typically caused by a damaged rotary potentiometer, an internal short circuit, or a wiring harness short to a positive voltage source.

Check the cause
Inspect the rear 3-point hitch linkage and rotary position sensor for physical damage to the housing, drive element/bushing, or linkage arm.
Disconnect the 3-pin weather-proof connector at the sensor and inspect the chassis harness for chafing, pinched wires, or a short to a positive voltage source.
Test the resistance across the pins of the potentiometer using a digital multimeter. Resistance should change smoothly without dead spots or infinite resistance as the lift arms are manually raised and lowered (e.g., testing between pins 1&2 and 2&3).
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the lift arm position potentiometer on the rear 3-point hitch EDC linkage assembly.
Remove the Faulty Sensor
Disconnect the 3-pin factory-sealed connector. Unbolt the sensor housing from the mounting bracket, taking care to retain any linkage drive elements or bushings if they are not included with the new part.
Install the New Sensor
Mount the new rotary potentiometer, ensuring the internal wiper tracks align correctly with the mechanical linkage angle. Secure the mounting bolts.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the 3-pin connector back into the sensor harness.
Perform Calibration
Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. You must perform the tractor's Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration procedure (often associated with code NH 1024) so the EDC module can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage limits of the replacement sensor.
