New Holland NH 1032 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module: Draft Load potentiometer is shorted to +12v

The draft load potentiometer is a sensor that monitors the position and load of the 3-point hitch to maintain a constant draft load while working in the field. When the system detects a voltage on this circuit that is shorted to the 12-volt power supply, it triggers this code and disables normal draft control functions.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the draft load potentiometer (typically located near the lower link pins or the rockshaft) for chafing, bare wires, or pinched sections that could introduce 12 volts into the sensor signal wire.

   Disconnect the EDC control unit connector, turn the key to the ON position, and measure the voltage at the sensor signal pin to check for a short to +12V.

   Ensure the sensor is receiving its proper 5-volt reference signal (if the 5V reference is shorted to 12V, code NH 1053 may also be present).

   Disconnect the potentiometer and test its resistance with a digital multimeter to determine if the sensor is internally shorted.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Repair Harness

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a short to +12V in the wiring harness, locate the damaged section, repair the wires using proper weather-sealed connectors, and re-loom the harness.

   Replace Sensor

   If the harness is intact but the sensor is internally shorted, unbolt the faulty draft load potentiometer from its mounting bracket on the hitch linkage. Install the new potentiometer and plug in the connector.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and use the tractor's diagnostic menu (or a diagnostic tool) to clear the NH 1032 error code.

   Perform Calibration

   After replacing the potentiometer or repairing the EDC circuit, you must perform the Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration (often indicated by code NH 1024: 'Perform Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration' or TMF 61: 'Hitch Calibration procedure must be performed'). Access the 'H1' calibration menu (or equivalent for your model) to calibrate the electro-hydraulic hitch limits.

   Test Operation

   Test the 3-point hitch system for normal raise, lower, and draft control operation.
