NH 1033

New Holland NH 1033 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Microprocessor / Controller: Draft Load potentiometer open circuit

Issue description

The control system has detected a complete loss of electrical continuity (an open circuit) in the signal, 5-volt reference, or ground circuit belonging to the draft load potentiometer.

Applies to these machines

  • T6000 Series
  • T7000 Series
  • T7030
  • T7040
  • T7050
  • T7060
  • T7 Series
  • T7.175
  • T7.190
  • TM Series
  • TM 175
  • 8340

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the draft load potentiometer and the EDC controller for visible breaks, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

  2. Disconnect the potentiometer and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.

  3. With the key ON, use a multimeter to verify that the potentiometer is receiving the standard 5-volt reference voltage and has a solid ground connection from the EDC module.

  4. Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the EDC controller to ensure the open circuit is not caused by a broken wire in the chassis harness.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the draft load potentiometer (typically mounted near the draft sensing pins on the lower link arms or integrated into the EDC control linkage).

  3. Remove the Faulty Sensor

Unplug the electrical connector and remove the mounting hardware securing the potentiometer.

  4. Install the New Sensor

Mount the replacement draft load potentiometer and secure the hardware.

  5. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back in, ensuring the weather-pack connector clicks securely into place. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Recalibrate the EDC

Perform the Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration procedure. The EDC controller needs to learn the new voltage limits of the replacement potentiometer (often prompted by a secondary code, 1024: "Perform Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration").
