NH 1065

New Holland NH 1065 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Module: EDC Hydraulic Valve Lower Solenoid Short Circuit

Issue description

This code indicates that the electrical circuit for the solenoid valve responsible for lowering the rear hitch has shorted out. The system detects that the voltage or current on the lower solenoid circuit is outside of expected parameters, which usually points to a short to 12V, a short to ground, or an internal failure of the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the EDC controller to the hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines.

  2. Disconnect the lower solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bridging that could cause a short.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the resistance across the lower solenoid coil pins. If the resistance is near zero, the coil is internally shorted.

  4. With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and check the voltage at the harness connector to ensure the EDC controller is sending the correct PWM signal and isn't permanently shorted internally.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Remove any implements connected to the remote valves and fully lower the hydraulic links. Ensure the hydraulic system is completely depressurized by operating the remote levers with the engine turned off.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the remote valve stack area (located at the rear of the tractor) to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Disconnect the electrical connections to the EDC raise and lower solenoids.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Unbolt and remove the faulty lower solenoid from the EDC proportional valve block.

  5. Install New Solenoid

Lubricate the new O-rings/seals with clean hydraulic fluid. Install the new solenoid into the valve block and torque to manufacturer specifications.

  6. Reconnect and Reassemble

Reconnect the wiring harness to the new solenoid.

  7. System Calibration

After replacing EDC hydraulic components, you must run the tractor's hydraulic lift calibration routine via the in-cab display or diagnostic tool to teach the controller the new valve's operating parameters.
