New Holland NH 14022 – ADIC (Advanced Digital Instrument Cluster): Radar Ground speed short to Ground

The signal voltage from the radar ground speed sensor is being unexpectedly pulled to 0 volts. This condition is typically caused by a wiring harness short (a bare wire touching the tractor's metal chassis) or an internal short circuit within the radar sensor itself.

   Trace the wiring harness from the radar ground speed sensor to the ADIC/Instrument cluster. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or bare spots where the signal wire might be grounding out against the tractor frame.

   Inspect the radar sensor connector (commonly a 4-wire, 4-prong round plug) for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the signal wire to the ground wire.

   Disconnect the radar sensor from the harness and turn the key on. Check if the 'short to ground' code changes to an 'open circuit' code (such as NH 14021) to determine if the sensor itself is internally shorted.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short is found in the harness during diagnostics, splice and heat-shrink the damaged section of the wire, or replace the affected harness pigtail.

   Replace Sensor

   If the sensor is internally shorted, unbolt the faulty radar sensor from its mounting bracket under the cab/chassis.

   Install New Sensor

   Mount the replacement radar sensor. Ensure it is angled correctly according to your specific model's service manual, as radar alignment is critical for accurate speed reading.

   Reconnect and Calibrate

   Plug in the 4-prong connector. Reconnect the battery. On some models, you may need to access the instrument cluster menu to input the tire size and recalibrate the radar gun settings.

   Test

   Clear the fault codes and test drive the tractor to verify that the ground speed registers accurately on the dash without throwing NH 14022.
