New Holland NH 14041 – ADIC (Analog-Digital Instrument Cluster) or Engine Controller (EDC): Engine coolant temp short to VCC or open circuit
Issue description
This indicates that the control module is receiving a voltage signal from the engine coolant temperature sensor that is too high (shorted to the VCC/reference voltage) or that the circuit is completely broken (open circuit).
Applies to these machines
8 machines- T4.75F
- T4.85F
- T4.95F
- T4.105F
- T5040
- T6050
- T7.175
- T7.225
Check the cause
Check the coolant temperature sensor and its electrical connector for loose pins, corrosion, or physical damage.
Inspect the wiring harness between the sensor and the ADIC/Engine ECU. Look for broken wires (open circuit) or chafed wires shorting to a power source (VCC).
Disconnect the sensor and turn the key ON. Verify that the 5V reference voltage and ground are present at the connector.
Measure the resistance across the sensor's terminals. If it reads infinite resistance (OL), the sensor is internally open and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts. Ensure the engine is cool to avoid burns from hot coolant.
Locate the Sensor
Find the engine coolant temperature sensor, typically located on the engine block or near the thermostat housing.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Place a catch pan under the work area to catch any escaping coolant. Unscrew the faulty sensor from the housing.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM coolant temperature sensor into the housing and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.
Refill Coolant
Top off the engine coolant to replace any fluid lost during the swap.
Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and monitor the instrument cluster. Verify that the temperature gauge operates normally and that fault code NH 14041 is no longer active.
