New Holland NH 14072 – Electrohydraulic Hitch Control (EHC) module or Armrest Control Unit (ARU): Front Hitch Position short to Ground or open circuit
Issue description
This is an electrical fault indicating that the control module is not receiving the expected voltage signal from the front hitch position sensor (potentiometer). The system detects that the signal wire is either broken/disconnected (open circuit) or is shorting directly to the chassis ground.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front hitch position sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or breaks.
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for moisture, dirt, or corrosion, which can cause an open circuit.
Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage from the ECU.
Check the ground circuit for continuity to the chassis.
Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the Hitch Controller/Armrest module for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and test it against the ground (to rule out a short to ground).
If the wiring harness passes all continuity and voltage checks, the internal potentiometer of the sensor has failed and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Preparation
Lower the front hitch completely to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure and mechanical tension. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the front hitch position potentiometer, which is mounted on the front hitch rockshaft or linkage arm pivot point.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting bolts/screws securing the sensor to the hitch frame and carefully slide the sensor off the pivot linkage.
Installation
Install the new position sensor, ensuring the mechanical arm/slot of the sensor aligns perfectly with the hitch pivot mechanism. Secure the mounting hardware and plug in the electrical connector.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery and turn on the tractor. You must perform a hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor or diagnostic tool. If the new sensor is not calibrated to learn the upper and lower hitch limits, the system will throw a secondary code (e.g., Code 9006: Front hitch position potentiometer – not calibrated).
