New Holland NH 14092 – Transmission Control Module (TCM) / XCM (Central Controller): Transmission output speed short to Ground
Issue description
This code indicates that the control module has detected that the signal circuit for the transmission output speed sensor has been pulled to ground (0 volts). This is an electrical fault typically caused by a chafed wire touching the chassis, a failed sensor internally shorting out, or moisture/corrosion inside the sensor connector. When this code is active, the tractor may inhibit upshifts in high range or experience a 1-to-2 second delay when attempting clutchless take-offs.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the transmission output speed sensor on the transmission housing. Disconnect the connector (often labeled C038) and inspect for bent pins, moisture, or dirt.
Sensor Resistance Test: Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the component side of the sensor's pins (Pin 1 to Pin 2). A healthy sensor should read approximately 0.80K Ohms to 1.2K Ohms (800 - 1200 Ohms). If the reading is outside this range or shows continuity to the sensor housing, the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Harness Short-to-Ground Test: If the sensor tests good, leave it disconnected. Test the signal wire on the machine-side harness for continuity to ground. If continuity is present, trace the harness back to the XCM/Transmission controller to locate the chafed wire.
Live Data Monitoring: If you have access to the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST), navigate to the monitor screen, select 'inst trans output speed' (RPM), and drive the tractor to see if the signal drops out erratically.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.
Access the Sensor
Locate the faulty transmission output speed sensor on the transmission housing. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from falling into the transmission.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the wiring harness. Remove the retaining bolt(s) holding the sensor in place and carefully pull the sensor out of the housing.
Replace the Seal
Always replace the O-ring/seal on the sensor port to prevent transmission fluid leaks.
Install the New Sensor
Lubricate the new O-ring with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new sensor, torque the retaining bolt to OEM spec, and reconnect the wiring harness.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic tests pointed to a harness issue rather than the sensor, splice and heat-shrink the chafed wire, ensuring it is routed away from sharp chassis edges.
Clear Codes and Test
Turn the key on, use the tractor's diagnostic interface to clear code NH 14092, and test drive the tractor to verify that upshifting is no longer delayed or inhibited.
