New Holland NH 15002 – Steering Controller (Fast Steer Controller (KA) or Hydraulic Electronic Steering System module): Steering wheel control proximity sensor open circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit (an open circuit) for the proximity sensor located on the steering column/wheel. When this circuit is open, the Fast Steer system is disabled for safety, and the fast steer lamp will typically flash.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- T6 Series (T6010, T6020, T6030, T6050, T6070)
- T7 Series (T7.220, T7.225, T7.235, T7.250, T7.260, T7.270)
- T8 Series
- T9 Series
- TM Series (TM 175)
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading from the Fast Steer Controller to the steering wheel proximity sensor for chafed wires, disconnected plugs, or pulled pins
Verify that the steering wheel is in the correct mechanical position, as an incorrect position can cause the proximity switch to read out of range
Disconnect the proximity sensor and perform a continuity test using a multimeter to check for internal failure (infinite resistance when it should be closed)
Check the supply voltage at the sensor connector to ensure the Fast Steer Controller is sending the correct reference voltage
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Sensor
Remove the steering column shrouds/cowling to access the steering wheel control proximity sensor.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector, repair the wiring harness using OEM-approved waterproof splices or replace the connector pigtail.
Replace the Sensor
If the sensor itself is faulty, unbolt the proximity sensor from its mounting bracket. Install the new sensor, ensuring it is gapped correctly according to the specific model's service manual.
Reassembly
Reconnect the sensor's electrical plug and reinstall the steering column shrouds.
System Calibration
Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. Access the tractor's H9 menu (or use the IntelliView monitor/diagnostic tool) to run the Fast Steer calibration procedure.
Clear Codes
Clear the NH 15002 fault code and test drive the tractor to ensure the Fast Steer system engages properly without the warning lamp flashing.
