New Holland NH 15006 – Steering Controller (Module KA): Split valve LVDT – open circuit

This fault code indicates an electrical open circuit in the Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) position sensor located on the split valve. The control module is not receiving a return voltage signal from the sensor, which typically points to a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a complete internal failure of the sensor's coil.

   Inspect the Split Valve Position Sensor (LVDT) connector (X626) for backed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress

   Inspect the main harness connection at the Steering Controller (connector X621)

   Perform a harness continuity test between connector X626 (at the sensor) and X621 (at the controller) to check for broken or rubbed-through wires

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the LVDT sensor itself to check for an internal open circuit (an OL reading confirms failure)

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the Fast Steer split valve manifold block (usually situated near the steering orbital valve or main hydraulic distribution block under the cab).

   Disconnect the Sensor

   Unplug connector X626 from the Split Valve LVDT sensor.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken wire, splice and heat-shrink the damaged section of the harness, or replace the affected harness pigtail.

   Sensor Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the sensor is internally faulty, unbolt the LVDT sensor from the split valve spool housing. Ensure the area is clean to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Install New Sensor

   Install the replacement LVDT sensor and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect connector X626. Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and allow the hydraulic oil to warm up (faults can sometimes trigger if oil is below 5°C). Clear the inactive fault codes and perform a steering system calibration if required by the service manual.
