NH 15013

New Holland NH 15013 – Steering Controller (KA Module) / Fast Steer Controller: Change valve or Split valve spools Stuck closed.

Issue description

This is a mechanical/hydraulic fault indicating that the internal spool inside the steering divider valve (change valve) is physically jammed or stuck in the closed position. The system detects this because the spool's actual position (monitored by a sensor) does not match the position commanded by the controller, preventing the tractor from safely switching steering modes.

Check the cause

  1. Check Hydraulic Oil Temperature: Ensure the tractor is up to operating temperature. Cold hydraulic oil (below 5°C) can cause sluggish spool movement.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Sensors: Check the wiring harness and connector for the LVDT (Connector B-021) and the Change Valve Solenoid (Connector Y-015) for corrosion or damage.

  3. Check for Fluid Contamination: Check hydraulic filters for restriction (Code 1004) as a stuck spool is almost always caused by debris, metal shavings, or degraded hydraulic fluid.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the steering circuit.

  2. Locate the Fast Steer Valve Block

    Locate the steering control manifold where the change valve and split valve solenoids are mounted.

  3. Remove the Valve Spools

    Carefully extract the change valve solenoid (Y-015) and the split valve spool assembly from the manifold block.

  4. Inspect and Clean

    Inspect the spools and the internal valve body bore for scoring, burrs, or trapped debris. Clean the spools and the bore thoroughly with an appropriate hydraulic solvent.

  5. Evaluate for Replacement

    If the spool or the bore is heavily scored, cleaning will not fix the issue, and the valve assembly/solenoid must be replaced. If they are in good condition, lubricate them with clean hydraulic fluid and ensure they slide freely in the bore.

  6. Reassemble

    Reinstall the spools, solenoids, and the LVDT position sensor.

  7. Bleed and Calibrate

    Bleed the hydraulic steering circuit. You must perform a steering system calibration using the tractor's diagnostic menu or a dealer tool. Failure to calibrate will result in fault code NH 15024 (System not calibrated).
