NH 2012

New Holland NH 2012 – Transmission Controller: Clutch Pedal Potentiometer Signal too High

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the clutch pedal sensor has an electrical fault. Specifically, the voltage signal returning from the clutch pedal potentiometer to the controller is too high. This is typically caused by a short circuit to +12V, a short to the 5V reference wire, an open ground circuit, or an internally defective potentiometer.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the clutch pedal potentiometer and its physical linkage in the cab to ensure it is not mechanically stuck, broken, or misadjusted.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors (e.g., C533, C534, C077) between the clutch pedal potentiometer and the transmission controller for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Verify the 5V reference voltage and ground at the sensor connector.

  4. Check the signal wire for a short circuit to +12V or the 5V reference.

  5. Check for an open circuit on the ground wire.

  6. Check the internal resistance of the potentiometer to determine if it is internally defective.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to ensure safety and prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Remove Faulty Sensor

Locate the clutch pedal potentiometer attached to the clutch pedal assembly in the cab. Disconnect the electrical connector, unbolt the mounting hardware, and remove the faulty potentiometer from the linkage.

  3. Install New Sensor

Install the replacement clutch pedal potentiometer, secure the mounting hardware, and reconnect the electrical connector.

  4. Reconnect Power

    Reconnect the tractor's battery.

  5. Perform Transmission Calibration

Bring the transmission oil up to operating temperature (usually around 60°C). Enter the tractor's Diagnostic "H" Routine (Calibration Mode) via the dashboard display. Follow your specific model's automated clutch calibration steps to relearn the clutch pedal position end limits and synchronize the clutches.

  6. Clear Codes

Clear the stored error codes from the transmission processor's non-volatile memory.
