NH 2024

New Holland NH 2024 – Transmission Controller: Synchro clutches not calibrated

Issue description

The transmission controller does not have stored fill-time calibration values for the powershift/synchro clutch packs. This typically occurs when a new transmission controller is installed, after a battery/memory reset, or after major transmission service, resulting in harsh, jumpy, or delayed shifts.

Applies to these machines

  • T5 Series (T5050, T5060)
  • T6 Series (T6.120, T6.145, T6030, T6050)
  • T7 Series (T7030, T7040, T7.210)
  • TM Series (TM120, TM165)
  • TS / TSA Series (TS100, TS115A, TS135A)
  • Genesis Series (8670)

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission fluid temperature (must be between 50°C and 60°C / 122°F - 140°F)

  2. Verify safety switches are in correct state (handbrake applied, tractor stationary, clutch pedal fully released)

  3. Check for and resolve any active 'U' codes (e.g., U21, U22, U23) before starting calibration

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up

Drive the tractor until the transmission oil temperature reaches at least 50°C.

  2. Setup

Park the tractor on level ground away from obstacles. Apply the handbrake, shift the gear lever to neutral, and turn the ignition OFF.

  3. Enter Calibration Mode

Press and hold both the upshift and downshift buttons on the gear lever simultaneously, then start the tractor.

  4. Verify Temperature

The dashboard display (or gear display) will show the transmission oil temperature. If it is within range, proceed.

  5. Set RPM and Direction

Set the engine throttle to approximately 1200 RPM (+/- 50 RPM). Move the shuttle lever into the FORWARD position. (The tractor will not drive because it is in calibration mode).

  6. Calibrate Clutch A (or C1)

Press the upshift button once to select the first clutch pack. Press and hold the downshift button. You will hear the engine RPM drop slightly as the clutch engages. Keep holding the button until the calibration number on the dash alternates with the clutch letter (or displays 'End'), indicating the fill time has been learned. Release the button.

  7. Calibrate Remaining Clutches

Press the upshift button to move to the next clutch (B, C, D, E, etc.) and repeat the process of holding the downshift button until each pack is calibrated.

  8. Synchronizer Calibration

On some models, after the main clutches are done, the display will show 'syn'. Press and hold the downshift button again to calibrate the range synchronizers.

  9. Save and Exit

Once all clutches are successfully calibrated, the display will show 'CF' (Calibration Finished). Turn the ignition key OFF to store the new calibration values in the controller's memory.
