New Holland NH 2039 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / Armrest controller / ICP: Clutch 4 solenoid open circuit / High Range PWM Valve Open Circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit (infinite resistance or lack of continuity) leading to the solenoid valve responsible for engaging Clutch 4 or the High Range gear pack in the transmission.

Check the cause
Trace the wiring harness from the transmission controller to the transmission control valve block. Look for chafed wires, broken lines, or disconnected plugs.
Disconnect the plug at the Clutch 4 / High Range solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the Clutch 4 solenoid itself. If it reads 'OL' (open loop/infinite resistance), the internal coil of the solenoid has failed.
Turn the key ON and probe the harness side of the connector to ensure the controller is sending the appropriate reference voltage/PWM signal to the solenoid.
Repair steps
Access the Valve Block
Locate the main powershift transmission control block (usually mounted on the side or top of the transmission housing).
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical connector from the Clutch 4 / High Range solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts or snap rings holding the solenoid in the manifold.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic/transmission fluid. Carefully insert it into the valve block to avoid pinching the seals, and secure the retaining hardware.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the solenoid tested fine but the harness was broken, splice and heat-shrink the broken wires, or replace the damaged harness section.
Reassemble and Calibrate
Reconnect the electrical plug. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard cluster menu.
Transmission Calibration
After replacing a transmission clutch solenoid, you must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure (often requiring the tractor to be at operating temperature) so the controller can learn the fill times for the new valve.
