New Holland NH 2043 – Transmission Control Module (XCM / Multi-function Control Module): Clutch 2 solenoid open circuit
Issue description
The electronic control system has detected a break in the electrical circuit supplying the Clutch 2 electro-proportional solenoid valve. Because of this open circuit, the solenoid cannot receive the electrical current required to actuate the hydraulic spool, preventing Clutch 2 from engaging.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the Transmission Control Module (XCM) to the transmission control block. Look for chafed wires, rodent damage, or disconnected plugs.
Connector Check: Disconnect the plug at the Clutch 2 solenoid. Check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins inside the weather-sealed connector.
Coil Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the Clutch 2 solenoid. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (infinite resistance), the internal copper winding of the solenoid is broken (open circuit), and the solenoid must be replaced.
Harness Continuity Test: If the solenoid tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the XCM pins to verify the wire itself is not broken.
Short to Ground Check: Test the circuit for a short to the tractor's chassis ground, as the controller logic can sometimes flag a dead short as an open circuit fault.
Repair steps
Safely park the tractor on level ground, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the main powershift transmission control block / hydraulic distribution manifold (usually located on the side of the transmission housing).
Identify the Clutch 2 solenoid valve on the matrix (refer to your specific model's hydraulic schematic to ensure you are pulling Clutch 2 and not Clutch 1, 3, or 4).
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt or debris from entering the open hydraulic circuit.
Disconnect the electrical connector plug from the solenoid.
Remove the retaining fastener (usually a bolt or nut) securing the solenoid coil/cartridge to the valve block.
Carefully pull the faulty solenoid valve out of the manifold.
Lubricate the O-rings on the new replacement solenoid with clean hydraulic transmission fluid.
Insert the new solenoid into the manifold, ensuring it seats fully, and reinstall the retaining fastener.
Reconnect the electrical plug, ensuring the weather seal clicks securely into place.
Turn on the tractor and use the onboard diagnostic display (or a connected service tool) to clear the NH 2043 fault code.
Perform a transmission synchro/clutch calibration procedure so the XCM can learn the fill times and engagement pressures of the new valve.
Important: This must be done after replacing a transmission clutch solenoid.
