NH 2048

New Holland NH 2048 – Transmission Control Module (Trans / TCU): Clutch pedal switch set too Low or Bottom of Clutch pedal switch or the bottom of clutch relay are short circuit

Issue description

The tractor's electronic system detects that the clutch pedal switch is either misadjusted (set too low), shorted out, or the bottom of the clutch relay is stuck in a short circuit. As a result, the tractor may perform normally, but the clutch pedal will fail to cut off power to the clutch solenoids when depressed.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the clutch pedal switch (located at the bottom of the clutch pedal assembly) for dirt, debris, or physical damage. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

  2. Verify if the clutch pedal switch is physically misadjusted (sitting too low to properly register the pedal's full travel).

  3. Disconnect the switch from the wiring harness and test for continuity using a multimeter to determine if it is stuck in an internal short circuit.

  4. If the switch tests fine, check the bottom-of-clutch relay in the fuse/relay panel for a short circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Clean and Adjust

If the switch is intact but misadjusted, loosen the mounting bracket, adjust the switch to the correct height so the pedal fully engages it, and retighten.

  2. Replace the Switch

If the switch fails the multimeter test (internal short), remove the faulty switch and install a new OEM replacement.

  3. Adjust the New Switch

Ensure the newly installed switch is adjusted correctly so the pedal travel properly actuates the sensor.

  4. Calibrate the Transmission

After replacing or adjusting transmission/clutch sensors, it is highly recommended to run a calibration sequence for the transmission clutches and synchros to ensure smooth shifting and clear the module's memory.

  5. Clear Codes

Cycle the ignition and test drive the tractor to ensure the clutch pedal properly cuts off power to the solenoids and the NH 2048 code does not return.
