New Holland NH 2052 – Transmission Controller: Oil temperature sensor short circuit

This code indicates that the electronic control module has detected a short circuit in the transmission oil temperature sensor circuit. A short circuit means the voltage signal returning to the controller has dropped below or spiked above the normal operating range, usually due to the wiring shorting to ground, shorting to another wire, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission oil temperature sensor for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground or a short to voltage.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the circuit.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the sensor's pins. If the resistance reads near zero ohms, the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   With the sensor disconnected, check the wiring between the sensor connector and the Transmission ECM for a short to ground. If the harness is shorted, the wiring must be repaired.

   Preparation

   Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the transmission oil temperature sensor, which is typically threaded into the side of the transmission housing (e.g., the right side on T8/T9 models).

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission fluid system.

   Removal

   Disconnect the two-wire electrical connector. Place a catch pan underneath the sensor area to catch any escaping transmission fluid. Unthread and remove the faulty sensor.
