New Holland NH 2054 – Transmission Control Module (XCM): 5 Volt Potentiometer Supply too Low
Issue description
The 5-volt reference circuit has dropped below the acceptable voltage threshold. This is almost always caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, a failed sensor internally shorting the 5V supply, or an internal failure of the control module supplying the voltage.

Check the cause
Isolate the Sensors: Disconnect the sensors that run on the transmission 5V reference circuit one at a time (primarily the Clutch Pedal Potentiometer, Shuttle Lever Potentiometer, and Wheel Speed Sensor).
Monitor the Voltage: With a multimeter, check the 5V reference pin at the sensor connector or monitor live voltage via a diagnostic tool. If voltage returns to approx. 5.0V after unplugging a sensor, that sensor has an internal short.
Inspect the Harness: If all sensors are unplugged and voltage remains low, inspect the transmission wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper shorting against the tractor chassis (ground).
Test the XCM: If the wiring harness tests perfectly for continuity and has no shorts to ground, but the XCM is still outputting a low reference voltage at the source pin, the XCM itself has suffered an internal hardware failure.
Repair steps
Disconnect Battery
Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before repairing wiring or replacing electronic modules.
Replace the Faulty Component
If a sensor was identified as the culprit, unbolt the faulty potentiometer and install the new OEM sensor. If the wiring harness is damaged, cut out the shorted section, solder in new wire, and seal it with heat-shrink tubing. If the XCM is faulty, remove the module, install the replacement, and flash/program it using the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Calibrate
If the clutch pedal potentiometer, shuttle lever, or XCM was replaced, you must perform a transmission calibration (often referred to as the 'H' routine in New Holland manuals) to teach the controller the new engagement points.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, clear the inactive NH 2054 fault code from the XCM memory, and test-drive the tractor to ensure forward/reverse shuttle and clutch operations function normally.
