NH 2055

New Holland NH 2055 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): No signal from wheel speed sensor

Issue description

The electronic control module detects that the sensor is failing to generate a valid speed signal, or the signal drops out entirely while the machine is in operation.

Applies to these machines

  • T5
  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • TG series (TG210, TG230, TG255, TG285)
  • T6000 series (T6010-T6070)
  • TM series
  • TSA series
  • Magnum series (235-340)
  • Maxxum series
  • Farmall series
  • B115B
  • TH7.xx

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission output speed sensor for breaks, chafing, or shorts to ground

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check the plug for moisture, dirt, or corroded pins

  3. Compare Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 signals via the ECM; if one shows a valid speed and the other drops out, it flags the erratic/intermittent sensor

  4. Check for related codes like NH 2049 (short/open) or NH 2056/2057 (5-volt reference issues) which point to a broader wiring harness or ECM issue rather than the sensor itself

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Locate the wheel speed / transmission output speed sensor on the transmission housing.

  2. Clean the Area

Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from entering the transmission housing during removal.

  3. Disconnect the Harness

Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. If the connector is damaged, it must be repaired (e.g., using a replacement 4-way connector, part # 87687242).

  4. Remove the Sensor

Unbolt and carefully pull the faulty speed sensor from the transmission housing.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Lubricate the O-ring/seal on the new sensor (e.g., 1.4mm ID seal, part # 82012084) and seat it into the housing. Secure it with the retaining bolt.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

Plug the wiring harness back in, ensuring the connector clicks and locks to maintain a weather-tight seal. Clear the fault codes from the Transmission ECU and test drive the tractor to verify the speed signal is restored.
