NH 2059

New Holland NH 2059 – Transmission Controller (MCM): Shuttle Lever switch disagree

Issue description

The transmission controller is receiving contradictory electrical signals from the shuttle lever's internal micro-switches (Forward, Neutral, and Reverse). Because the signals conflict, the controller cannot determine the operator's intended direction of travel and disables shifting for safety.

Applies to these machines

  • T4.55S
  • T4.65S
  • T4.75S
  • T5 Series
  • T6010
  • T6020
  • T6030

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the Lever: Rapidly cycle the shuttle lever back and forth between forward and reverse to free up physically stuck micro-switches.

  2. Test Opposite Direction: Try driving in the opposite direction to see if the controller registers a valid single input, confirming the issue is isolated to one specific directional switch.

  3. Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of the shuttle lever (inside the steering column) for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause a short circuit.

  4. Voltage Check: Verify that the 5V reference voltage powering the switch is within specification.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Remove the steering column shrouds or dashboard trim panels required to access the base of the shuttle lever.

  3. Locate and disconnect the electrical harness connector from the shuttle lever switch.

  4. Remove the mounting screws or bolts securing the shuttle lever assembly to the steering column.

  5. Install the new shuttle lever switch assembly and secure it with the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place.

  7. Reinstall the steering column shrouds and trim panels.

  8. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test forward, neutral, and reverse engagements to ensure the code is cleared and the transmission shifts correctly.
