New Holland NH 2073 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Reverse switch input from the FNRP Pod is shorted to ground or open circuit
Issue description
The control unit detects that the voltage signal from the reverse switch has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold (less than 0.7 Volts for 0.5 seconds), indicating a broken wire, a short to ground, or an internal failure of the reverse switch inside the FNRP Pod.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the FNRP Pod on the steering column/console down to the Transmission Control Unit for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs.
Disconnect the FNRP Pod and inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or moisture ingress.
Using a multimeter, check the voltage at the TCU input pin for the reverse switch (e.g., pin 22 on connector X-053). It should read above 0.7V under normal conditions.
Test the reverse switch circuit for continuity to ground to confirm if a short exists. Check for an open circuit by testing the wire from the pod connector to the TCU connector.
Verify that the FNRP pod is receiving its standard 5-volt reference signal and has a solid ground connection.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical damage during the repair.
Access the Pod
Remove the plastic trim and covers surrounding the steering column or armrest console to expose the FNRP Pod assembly.
Isolate the Fault
If the wiring harness tested faulty during diagnostics, repair the broken wire or wrap the shorted section with electrical tape/heat shrink. If the wiring is intact, the internal switch of the FNRP pod has failed.
Remove the FNRP Pod
Unplug the electrical connector from the pod. Remove the mounting fasteners holding the pod in place and extract the unit. (The internal switches are generally not serviced separately from the pod assembly).
Install the New Part
Mount the replacement FNRP Pod assembly and secure the fasteners.
Reassembly
Plug in the electrical connector and reinstall all plastic trim and covers.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool or the onboard display to clear the NH 2073 fault code.
Test Operation
Shift the lever through Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park to ensure the transmission engages correctly and the code does not return.
