NH 2075

New Holland NH 2075 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Any short period is longer than the corresponding long period

Issue description

Indicates an erratic, implausible, or missing signal from the Flywheel Speed Sensor. The controller measures the time between the sensor pulses to calculate engine RPM and torque. When the time between pulses is mathematically inconsistent, it triggers this code.

Applies to these machines

  • T5 Series
  • T6 Series
  • T7 Series
  • T7.220
  • T7.260
  • T6000 Series
  • TM Series
  • TSA Series
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Farmall series

Check the cause

  1. Wiring & Connector Inspection: Check the wiring harness leading to the flywheel speed sensor on the bell housing. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or a loose/corroded connector.

  2. Sensor Inspection: Remove the sensor and inspect the magnetic tip. Metal shavings or debris stuck to the tip can distort the magnetic field and cause erratic pulse readings.

  3. Mechanical Damper Check: Inspect the damper/flywheel assembly for excessive play or failure, as a failing engine torsional damper can cause the flywheel to rotate erratically.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Locate the flywheel speed sensor, which is mounted on the engine bell housing / flywheel housing.

  2. Disconnect

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.

  3. Remove

Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in place and carefully pull the sensor out of the housing.

  4. Clean

Wipe the mounting port clean to ensure the new sensor seats at the correct depth (incorrect depth will cause a weak signal).

  5. Install

Insert the new OEM flywheel speed sensor and tighten the retaining bolt to factory spec. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Calibrate

Reconnect the battery and clear the fault codes. Note: After replacing the sensor, you may trigger code 2124 ("Flywheel speed sensor not calibrated"). If so, you must run the tractor's automated clutch/flywheel calibration procedure via the dashboard diagnostic menu.
