New Holland NH 2080 – Transmission Controller (TCU / Transmission Module): Synchro 4 no longer engaged

This fault code indicates that the transmission controller has detected that the 4th synchronizer (part of the 4/5 synchro assembly) has unexpectedly disengaged or lost its position signal while it was commanded to be engaged.

   Monitor the live voltage of the 4/5 Synchro Position Potentiometer using a diagnostic tool to check for erratic voltage drops or spikes when shifting

   Inspect the transmission wiring harness connecting the TCU to the Synchro 4 solenoid and the 4/5 synchro potentiometer for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose connector pins

   If the sensor and solenoid are functioning perfectly, the synchronizer is physically slipping out of gear. This requires removing the transmission side cover or splitting the tractor to access the synchronizer assembly. Inspect the shift fork, synchronizer brass rings, and gears for excessive wear or damage, and replace as necessary.

   Reassemble the transmission components and refill with clean, OEM-specified transmission fluid.

   Transmission Calibration

   After replacing the potentiometer, solenoid, or mechanical synchro parts, you must perform a transmission calibration routine. This allows the Transmission Controller to learn the new engagement positions and clutch fill times.
