New Holland NH 2089 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Synchro 5 no longer engaged

Indicates a mechanical or electro-hydraulic failure where the transmission's 5th gear synchronizer has unexpectedly slipped out of its engaged position, or the transmission controller has detected via the position sensor (potentiometer) that the synchronizer is not holding its commanded state. This can be caused by a loss of hydraulic pressure to the shift solenoid, a failing solenoid, a faulty position sensor, or physical wear on the synchronizer rings and shift forks.

   Check for related electrical fault codes (e.g., NH 2081, 2082, 2084, 2086, 2088) that point to an electrical failure rather than a mechanical one.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Synchro 5 shift solenoid and the 4/5 synchronizer position potentiometer for chafing, corrosion, or loose connections.

   Verify that the transmission hydraulic pressure is within spec. Low pressure can cause the synchronizer to disengage under load.

   Attempt to run a transmission calibration via the onboard 'H Menu' diagnostics or a dealer electronic service tool. If the clutches or synchronizers fail to calibrate, it confirms a hard fault.
