NH 2095

New Holland NH 2095 – Transmission Control Module (TCM): C1 Clutch not calibrated

Issue description

The transmission control system has lost the calibration values for the C1 clutch pack (or the values are out of the acceptable range), meaning the controller does not know the exact hydraulic fill time and spring pressure required to engage the C1 clutch smoothly. This often results in rough shifting, failure to engage certain gears, or the transmission defaulting to a protective state.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 Series (T6.120, T6.140, T6.150, T6.160)
  • T6000 Series (T6010, T6020, T6030, T6050, T6070)
  • TS-A Series (TS125A)
  • TM Series (TM120 through TM190)
  • T7 Series
  • T8 Series
  • 8560

Check the cause

  1. Transmission Fluid Temperature: Ensure the transmission oil is warm. Calibration cannot be performed successfully on cold oil. The ideal temperature is typically between 40°C and 60°C.

  2. Check for Related Fault Codes: Look for associated codes that might indicate a hard failure rather than just a lost calibration (e.g., U32/U33 for mechanical failure/pressure loss/RPM drop, or E44/E45 for electrical failure).

  3. Electrical Testing: Inspect the wiring harness and connector to the C1 clutch PWM solenoid. Check for a good ground, proper 12V supply, and ensure there are no shorts or open circuits in the harness leading back to the TCM.

  4. Hydraulic Pressure Test: If calibration fails repeatedly, check the regulated hydraulic pressure to the powershift valves to ensure the C1 clutch pack is receiving adequate pressure.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Start the tractor and warm the transmission oil to approximately 60°C. Park on a level surface.

  2. Enter Calibration Mode

Turn the ignition off. Apply the handbrake. Place the main gear lever in neutral.

  3. Initiate

Press and hold both the upshift (bunny) and downshift (turtle) buttons on the gear lever simultaneously, and start the tractor.

  4. Verify Mode

The bottom middle display on the dash should show "CAL". Release the buttons.

  5. Set RPM

Increase the engine speed to approximately 1200 - 1400 RPM (refer to the specific model's manual, but this is the standard range).

  6. Engage Shuttle

Move the forward/reverse shuttle lever into the Forward position.

  7. Synchronizer Calibration

Press the upshift button once. The display will show numbers climbing up to 5 and then display "END".

  8. C1 Clutch Calibration

Press and hold the downshift (turtle) button (or upshift, depending on the exact model year). The display will show "C1". The engine RPM will fluctuate as the TCM tests the clutch engagement pressure.

  9. Hold until END

Keep holding the button while the numbers on the display climb and drop. Once the numbers stabilize and the display reads "END", release the button.

  10. Complete the Sequence

The system will automatically prompt for C2. Repeat the holding process for C2, C3, and C4 as prompted until the screen shows "SYN" or calibration is complete.

  11. Save and Exit

Turn the ignition off to save the new calibration values to the TCM. Restart the tractor to verify the NH 2095 code has cleared.
