New Holland NH 2096 – Transmission Controller / Transmission Module (TRANS): C2 Clutch not calibrated
Issue description
The transmission controller does not have a valid fill-time calibration value stored for the C2 clutch pack. The controller requires this calibration routine to learn the exact time it takes to fill the clutch with fluid, which ensures smooth gear engagement and prevents harsh shifting or slipping.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- TS-A series
- T6 series
- T6.120
- T6000 series
- T7
- T8
Check the cause
Ensure the transmission oil is warmed up (ideally around 60°C). If the oil is too cold (below 10°C), the system will trigger a U19 error and abort the calibration.
Look for active codes related to the C2 clutch solenoid circuit, such as codes 2040-2045 or 2514 (C2 clutch solenoid shorted to +12v / open circuit). If the solenoid is electrically faulty, calibration will fail.
Ensure the clutch pedal potentiometer and bottom-of-travel switches are functioning correctly. A faulty clutch pedal switch (Code 2037) or potentiometer (Codes 2011/2012) will prevent the controller from confirming the pedal is fully depressed, halting the routine.
Ensure you are following the correct start-up sequence. An incorrect sequence will trigger a U20 error.
Repair steps
Warm up the tractor
Warm up the tractor until the transmission oil is at operating temperature.
Prepare tractor for calibration
Apply the handbrake, switch off the air conditioning (to prevent erratic engine loads), and place the gear lever in neutral.
Enter Calibration Mode
Hold both the upshift and downshift buttons on the gear lever and start the engine. The instrument cluster should display "CAL", followed shortly by the transmission oil temperature.
Set engine speed
Set the engine speed to 1200 +/- 100 RPM (some models may require 1300-1400 RPM).
Configure levers
Depress the clutch pedal. Place the shuttle lever in the forward position and the main gear lever in the forward position, but leave the range lever in neutral. Release the clutch pedal.
Calibrate C2
Press and hold the Downshift (turtle) button to calibrate the C2 clutch.
Monitor calibration progress
The display will show a flashing number that scrolls up as the clutch fill time is adjusted. The engine RPM will rise and then drop.
Wait for completion
When the processor detects a decrease in engine RPM of 50, the calibration is complete. The flashing number will become fixed (or display "End").
Release button
Release the downshift button.
Save calibration
Turn off the ignition to save the new calibration values to the transmission controller.
