New Holland NH 2101 – Transmission Control Module (TCM): C5 dump solenoid open circuit

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit for the C5 clutch dump solenoid. An open circuit typically means there is infinite resistance, caused by a severed wire, an unplugged connector, or a burnt-out internal coil within the solenoid itself.

   Inspect the transmission wiring harness routing from the TCM to the transmission valve block for chafed wires, rodent damage, or disconnected plugs

   Disconnect the harness at the C5 dump solenoid and check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or water ingress inside the connector

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the C5 dump solenoid itself using a digital multimeter (an 'OL' or infinite reading indicates the coil has failed internally)

   Test the continuity of the power and ground wires from the solenoid connector back to the Transmission Controller to locate the break in the harness (if the solenoid tests within normal resistance specifications)

   Park and prepare machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing and identify the C5 dump solenoid.

   Clean area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic circuit.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the C5 dump solenoid.

   Remove hardware

   Remove the retaining nut or bolts securing the solenoid to the valve block.

   Remove solenoid

   Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge/coil assembly out of the valve body. Have a catch pan ready for a small amount of hydraulic fluid loss.

   Lubricate O-rings

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new C5 dump solenoid with clean transmission hydraulic fluid.

   Install new solenoid

   Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and tighten the retaining hardware to the OEM torque specification.

   Reconnect electricals

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

    Clear codes and calibrate

    Clear the inactive fault codes using a diagnostic tool. You must then perform a Transmission Clutch Calibration procedure to prevent subsequent codes.
