NH 3001

New Holland NH 3001 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Accelerator Pedal Signal - NOT PLAUSIBLE

Issue description

This code indicates that the two signals coming from the accelerator pedal (foot throttle sensor) do not match. Because the redundant signals are contradictory, the Engine Control Module (ECM) cannot determine the true throttle position.

Applies to these machines

  • T6000
  • T7
  • T8 series
  • Puma
  • Workmaster 50
  • Workmaster 60
  • Workmaster 70
  • C-Series
  • L-Series
  • C227
  • L218
  • L220

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the foot throttle sensor for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins

  2. Check the voltage signals coming from the foot throttle sensor to verify if one is dropping out due to a short or open circuit

  3. Look for accompanying codes like 3002 (Signal Source High / Open Circuit) or 3003 (Signal Source Low / Short Circuit) to help pinpoint a short or severed wire

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Battery

Always disconnect the battery before servicing electronic sensors to prevent short circuits.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wires or heavily corroded connectors at the pedal assembly, repair the wiring harness or replace the pigtail connector.

  3. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is fully intact and passes continuity tests, the internal potentiometers in the foot throttle sensor have likely failed. Unbolt the sensor/pedal assembly from the floorboard bracket and install a new unit.

  4. Recalibrate / Reset

After installing a new sensor, the system may need to be reset. This allows the controller to 'relearn' what the closed throttle and full throttle voltage parameters look like.
