NH 3002

New Holland NH 3002 – Engine Controller / Engine ECU: Accelerator Pedal Signal - SOURCE HIGH

Issue description

The signal voltage coming from the accelerator pedal sensor (or foot throttle sensor) is too high, which typically points to an open circuit or a short to a high voltage source. Because the signal is out of its normal operating range, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) cannot determine the true position of the throttle.

Applies to these machines

  • L218
  • L220
  • L225
  • L230
  • C227
  • C232

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness between the accelerator pedal sensor and the Engine ECU for an open circuit.

  2. Inspect the wiring for a short circuit to a high voltage source (such as a 5-volt reference wire shorted to the signal wire).

  3. Check the accelerator pedal sensor itself to see if the internal potentiometer has failed and is outputting a signal above the upper tolerance limit.

Repair steps

  1. Locate sensor

Locate the accelerator pedal sensor (foot throttle sensor) in the cab footwell.

  2. Inspect connector

Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, damage, or loose connections.

  3. Test wiring

Use a multimeter to verify the integrity of the wiring harness back to the Engine ECU. Check for continuity and ensure there are no shorts to power or ground.

  4. Repair wiring

Repair any damaged wiring or connectors found during the inspection.

  5. Replace sensor

If the wiring harness tests good and the voltage is still reading too high, the fault is internal to the sensor. Replace the accelerator pedal assembly / foot throttle sensor.

  6. Clear codes

Clear the fault codes from the ECU using a diagnostic tool or DTC eraser to ensure the system returns to normal operation.
