NH 3003

New Holland NH 3003 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Accelerator Pedal Signal - SOURCE LOW

Issue description

The signal voltage from the foot throttle sensor (accelerator pedal position sensor) has fallen below the minimum acceptable range. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the sensor wiring, a loss of the 5V reference voltage, or an internal failure of the pedal's potentiometer.

Applies to these machines

  • TD5 Series
  • TD5.85
  • T-Series Tractors
  • T4000
  • T5000
  • T6000
  • T7000
  • T8000
  • T9000
  • TM Series
  • TM140
  • TM150
  • TM175
  • TL Series
  • TLA Series
  • Maxxum
  • Magnum

Check the cause

  1. Check the tractor's battery voltage, as low system voltage (especially during cold weather starts) can cause the ECU to register false Source Low codes.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the accelerator pedal for chafed wires causing a short circuit to ground, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, verify the sensor is receiving its proper 5V reference voltage from the ECU.

  4. Test the signal wire with a multimeter to confirm if the voltage drops below the minimum range, indicating a dead spot in the potentiometer.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage to the ECU.

  2. Locate the accelerator pedal assembly on the right side of the cab floorboard.

  3. Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the pedal's potentiometer/sensor.

  4. Remove the mounting bolts securing the accelerator pedal assembly to the cab floor.

  5. Remove the faulty pedal assembly.

  6. Position the new OEM accelerator pedal assembly and secure it with the mounting bolts.

  7. Reconnect the electrical wiring harness, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

  8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

  9. Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the NH 3003 fault code from the Engine ECU.

  10. Start the engine and verify smooth throttle response.
