New Holland NH 3004 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Accelerator Pedal Signal - NO SIGNAL

The control module is no longer receiving a valid voltage signal from the foot throttle position sensor/potentiometer, resulting in the engine being restricted to idle or entering a degraded/limp mode.

   Check Power Supply: With the key ON, test for a 12V supply at the pedal connector. If no voltage is present, check the corresponding fuse (e.g., Fuse 46).

   Check 5-Volt Reference: Test the 5V reference supply at the sensor connector. If 5V is missing, trace the circuit back to the controller to rule out an internal controller fault.

   Check Ground: Verify the ground circuit back to the controller has good continuity and no excessive resistance.

   Potentiometer Sweep Test: Connect a voltmeter between the sensor's signal terminal and the ground terminal. Slowly press the pedal down. The voltage should move smoothly and linearly (typically from around 0.55V at idle up to 4.15V at full throttle).

   Idle Validation Switch Test (if equipped): Test the idle switch circuit. With the pedal up, it should read 0V. With the pedal pressed, it should read 5V.

   Power down machine

   Turn off the machine and remove the key to ensure the CAN-bus and controllers are powered down.

   Locate pedal assembly

   Locate the foot throttle pedal assembly in the cab.

   Inspect and repair wiring

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the pedal. Look for chafed wires, rodent damage, or loose/corroded pins in the connector. Repair any wiring faults found during the diagnostic checks.

   Disconnect electrical connector

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor failed the sweep test, disconnect the electrical connector from the pedal assembly.

   Unbolt pedal assembly

   Unbolt the accelerator pedal assembly from the cab floorboard. (Note: On many modern CNH machines, the sensor is integrated into the pedal assembly and replaced as a single unit).

   Install new pedal assembly

   Install the new accelerator pedal assembly and secure the mounting bolts.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks and locks into place.

   Clear code and test

   Turn the key ON and use a diagnostic tool to clear the NH 3004 fault code. Test the pedal operation to ensure the engine responds smoothly and the code does not return.
