New Holland NH 3005 – Engine Controller / Engine ECU: Accelerator Pedal Signal - ALL OTHER FAULTS

Issue description

This code indicates a diagnostic fault check has reported an error with the accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS) signal. The engine control system recognizes a malfunction in the throttle signal that does not fit into the other specific categories (such as "Not Plausible", "Source High", "Source Low", or "No Signal").

Applies to these machines

  • TM series
  • T4
  • T5
  • T6
  • T7 series
  • MXM series
  • loader backhoes
  • compact wheel loaders
  • T4000
  • T6000
  • T7000
  • TS series
  • MXU series
  • B90B
  • B95
  • B110

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the footwell area by raising the floor mat and removing the access panel to access the accelerator pedal wiring harness.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and the 3-terminal connector going to the accelerator pedal position sensor for open circuits, short circuits, or corrosion.

  3. Check if the sensor is sending erratic voltage spikes that fall outside the standard high/low parameters.

  4. Ensure the pedal does not simply need a software recalibration via the Customer Electronic Service Tool (EST).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access pedal assembly

Locate the accelerator pedal assembly in the cab footwell. Remove the shifter boot or access panels next to the pedal to access the mounting bolts.

  3. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the 3-terminal electrical connector from the throttle position sensor.

  4. Unbolt pedal assembly

Unbolt the throttle pedal assembly from the floor (usually held by two bolts).

  5. Replace sensor or assembly

If replacing just the sensor, unbolt the old potentiometer from the pedal bracket and install the new one. If replacing the whole assembly, install the new pedal unit.

  6. Reinstall assembly

Reconnect the electrical harness and bolt the assembly back to the floor.

  7. Clear fault codes

Reconnect the battery and use a CAN-BUS DTC Eraser or the New Holland EST to clear the existing fault codes from the Engine ECU.
