NH 3007

New Holland NH 3007 – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): Coolant Temperature Signal - SOURCE HIGH

Issue description

The engine control module is receiving a signal voltage from the Engine Coolant Temperature Sender that is outside the maximum allowable limit (typically reading less than 4.8 volts or shorted to ground).

Check the cause

  1. Verify the code using an Electronic Service Tool to check if the fault is active, then clear it and run the machine to see if it returns.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the Coolant Temperature Sender and the ECM (e.g., ECM connector X-016, pins 57 and 58) for chafed wires, a short to the positive battery terminal, or an open circuit.

  3. Check the sensor connectors to ensure they are free of corrosion, moisture, and bent pins.

  4. Test the sensor itself; if wiring and connectors are in good condition and the signal voltage remains out of range, the sensor has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

    Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts. Allow the engine to cool completely.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the Engine Coolant Temperature Sender, which is threaded directly into the engine cylinder head or the thermostat housing manifold.

  3. Disconnect the Sensor

    Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the Faulty Sensor

    Place a catch pan under the engine to catch any escaping coolant. Use a wrench to unthread and remove the faulty sensor.

  5. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM coolant temperature sensor into the housing. (Note: Check if the new sensor requires thread sealant; many brass NPTF sensors come with pre-applied sealant). Tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.

  7. Refill Coolant

    Top off the engine coolant reservoir to replace any fluid lost during the swap.

  8. Test

    Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and monitor the dashboard gauge. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the NH 3007 code and verify it does not return.
