New Holland NH 3023 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Atmospheric Pressure Sensor - Signal Not Plausible Compared with Boost Pressure
Issue description
The engine control system continuously monitors the atmospheric (barometric) pressure and compares it against the intake boost pressure (typically at key-on/engine-off or at idle). If the reading from the atmospheric pressure sensor deviates too far from the boost pressure sensor reading, the system flags the signal as implausible and triggers this code.

Check the cause
Check for active Boost Pressure Sensor codes (3019, 3021, or 3022) which can trigger a false 3023 code
Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or EASy diagnostic tool to read live data. With key ON and engine OFF, Atmospheric Pressure and Boost Pressure should read nearly identical values (approx. 14.5 psi / 100 kPa at sea level)
Inspect the wiring harness and connector for the boost pressure sensor for shorts, corrosion, or open circuits
Repair steps
Rule out the Boost Sensor
If the live data shows the boost pressure sensor is reading inaccurately at rest, replace the boost pressure sensor and clear the codes.
Identify ECU Internal Failure
If the boost pressure sensor is accurate but the atmospheric pressure reading is skewed or out of range, the atmospheric pressure sensor has failed.
ECU Replacement
The atmospheric pressure sensor is built internally into the Engine ECU and cannot be serviced or replaced independently. The ECU must be replaced.
Evaluate Necessity of Repair
If the machine does not have a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and operates at consistent, lower altitudes, the engine will substitute a default atmospheric value and can often be operated without replacing the ECU.
Reprogramming
If ECU replacement is required, the new ECU must be flashed and programmed with the machine's specific dataset and injector trim codes using the CNH EST software.
