New Holland NH 3039 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Power stage Fuel filter heater - NO SIGNAL

This fault code indicates that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is not receiving the expected electrical feedback signal from the fuel filter heater's power stage (the relay or the heater circuit itself). The "NO SIGNAL" designation typically points to an open circuit, a disconnected wiring harness, a blown fuse, or a completely failed relay/heater element preventing the ECU from detecting the circuit.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the fuel filter heater and relay for disconnected plugs, broken wires, or severe corrosion.

   Test the fuel filter heater relay in the power distribution box for continuity and proper switching when voltage is applied.

   Check the wiring harness for an open circuit between the ECU pins and the fuel filter heater relay using a multimeter.

   Measure the resistance (Ohms) of the fuel filter heater element; an infinite reading (OL) indicates a broken internal heating element.

   Verify that the relay is receiving proper battery voltage and has a solid ground connection.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Components

   Locate the fuel filter housing (usually on the side of the engine block) and the main electrical fuse/relay box.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector plug at the heater, splice in a new connector or repair the wire using heat-shrink tubing.

   Relay Replacement

   If the relay failed the bench test, pull the old relay from the fuse box and seat the new OEM relay firmly into the terminals.

   Heater Element Replacement

   If the heater element is dead, place a drain pan under the fuel filter. Unplug the heater's electrical connector. Depending on the housing design, either unscrew the heater element from the top/bottom of the filter housing or replace the entire filter bowl assembly if the heater is integrated. Install the new heater and tighten to OEM spec.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical plugs. Reconnect the battery.

   Prime and Clear

   Turn the key to the ON position to allow the lift pump to prime the fuel system. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the NH 3039 fault code from the ECU memory. Start the engine and verify the code does not return.
