New Holland NH 3048 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Adapt.cylinder balancing Cylinder 4 - SOURCE HIGH

The Engine Control Unit uses an Adaptive Cylinder Balancing (ACB) strategy to ensure smooth engine operation. "SOURCE HIGH" indicates that the ECU has reached the maximum positive fuel correction limit for Cylinder 4, but the cylinder is still not contributing enough power to balance the engine.

   Check for accompanying injector electrical fault codes (e.g., NH 3060 through 3077, which indicate injector solenoid valve issues like 'NOT PLAUSIBLE' or 'NO SIGNAL').

   Check the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the Cylinder 4 injector for high resistance, chafing, or open circuits.

   Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to perform a cylinder acceleration test or manual injector shut-off test to verify Cylinder 4's contribution.

   Perform a cylinder compression test and check the valve lash/clearance for Cylinder 4 to rule out mechanical failures (e.g., bad piston rings or valves).

   Access the Injector

   Clean the area around the cylinder head. Depending on the engine model (NEF vs. Cursor), remove the valve cover if the injectors are located under it.

   Remove the Faulty Injector

   Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector for Cylinder 4. Remove the injector hold-down clamp and carefully extract the injector.

   Install the New Injector

   Install the new injector using a new sealing washer/O-ring. Torque the hold-down clamp and high-pressure fuel lines to the OEM specifications for your specific engine.

   Program the Injector Trim Code

   Use the CNH EST diagnostic tool to enter the new injector's trim code (IQA/IMA code, usually printed on the top of the injector) into the Engine ECU.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket (if applicable). Clear the fault codes and run the engine to verify that the cylinder balancing values have returned to normal parameters.
