New Holland NH 3050 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Battery voltage signal - BELOW NORMAL
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the system voltage detected by the control module has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold. A healthy 12V system should rest at approximately 12.6V and operate between 13.8V and 14.4V when the engine is running. When the voltage drops significantly below this range, the module logs NH 3050 to warn of a charging system deficit, battery failure, or severe voltage drop in the wiring.

Check the cause
Test Battery Health: With the machine off, use a multimeter to check the resting battery voltage (it should be ~12.6V). Perform a load test to ensure the battery isn't dropping voltage under demand.
Check the Charging System: Start the engine and measure the voltage at the battery terminals. A stable reading between 13.8V and 14.4V means the alternator is good. If the voltage is fluctuating or below 13V, the alternator or voltage regulator is failing.
Inspect the Alternator Belt: Ensure the alternator drive belt is properly tensioned and not slipping.
Inspect Grounds and Terminals: Check the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness. Inspect the main earth/ground straps (engine to chassis, cab to chassis) and measure resistance.
Check Wiring Looms: Inspect the wiring harness connecting to the ECU/VCM for moisture, chafing, or damaged connector pins, particularly at movement points like the steering column or cab pivot.
Repair steps
If the battery or terminals are at fault: Park the machine on level ground, lower all attachments, and turn off the ignition.
Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable first, followed by the positive (+) cable.
Use a wire brush and electrical contact cleaner to thoroughly clean the battery terminals and cable connectors.
If the battery failed the load test, remove the battery hold-down bracket and extract the old battery.
Install the new OEM replacement battery.
Reconnect the positive (+) cable first, then the negative (-) cable. Apply dielectric grease to the terminals to prevent future corrosion.
If the alternator is at fault: Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Relieve tension on the alternator drive belt and remove the belt from the alternator pulley.
Disconnect the electrical harness and main power cable from the rear of the alternator.
Remove the mounting bolts and extract the faulty alternator.
Install the new alternator, torque the mounting bolts to spec, and reattach the electrical connections.
Reinstall the drive belt and adjust the tensioner.
Reconnect the battery and verify the charging voltage is restored to 13.8V - 14.4V.
After repairs, use a compatible diagnostic tool or CAN-bus DTC eraser to clear the NH 3050 inactive code from the ECU/VCM memory.
