New Holland NH 3061 – Engine Controller (EDC / ECM): Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 1 - SOURCE HIGH
Issue description
The engine's control system has detected an electrical short circuit to battery voltage on the low side of the wiring circuit for the fuel injector on Cylinder 1, which can cause the controller to disable the entire bank of injectors, resulting in a severe engine misfire or a complete engine shutdown.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- T6 series
- T7 series
- T8 series
- T9 series
- B110B Loader Backhoes
Check the cause
Visually inspect the injector wiring harness from the Engine Controller (EDC) to the Cylinder 1 injector. Look for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points where the wire might be shorting to a power source.
Disconnect the Cylinder 1 injector and the EDC harness connector. Use a multimeter to test the low-side wire of the Cylinder 1 circuit for continuity to battery voltage.
Measure the internal resistance of the Cylinder 1 injector solenoid. If the resistance is out of specification (showing a dead short), the injector itself has failed internally.
Inspect the EDC and injector connectors for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins that could bridge the low-side circuit to a power pin.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.
Access the Injector
Remove any engine covers or valve covers necessary to access the Cylinder 1 fuel injector and its wiring.
Address Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire using proper weather-sealed splices, or replace the entire injector wiring harness.
Replace Injector
If the injector solenoid is internally shorted: Clean the area around the injector to prevent debris from entering the cylinder. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the injector and cap the rail fitting. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the Cylinder 1 injector. Install the new injector using new OEM copper sealing washers and O-rings. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque to spec.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector to the injector.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use a CNH diagnostic tool (EST) to clear the NH 3061 fault code. (Note: If a new injector was installed, you may need to program the new injector's trim code into the EDC).
Test
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and verify that the engine runs smoothly without throwing the code again.
