NH 3064

New Holland NH 3064 – EDC7 or EDC16: Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 5 - NOT PLAUSIBLE

Issue description

An unclassifiable error or a plausibility failure in the electrical circuit of the fuel injector solenoid on cylinder number 5. The system detects that the electrical characteristics or response of the injector solenoid do not match expected operational parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • T6000 series
  • T4
  • T5
  • T6
  • T7
  • B95B
  • B110B
  • B115B
  • W130C
  • D95B

Check the cause

  1. Check the engine wiring harness between the EDC7 controller and the cylinder 5 injector for open circuits, short circuits to ground, or short circuits to battery voltage.

  2. Inspect the connectors at both the cylinder 5 injector and the EDC7 ECU (e.g., Pins 1 and 16 on the NEF EDC7 UC31 injector connector) for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture.

  3. Measure the resistance of the cylinder 5 injector solenoid valve with a multimeter to verify it is within the manufacturer's specified range. Compare it to the resistance of a known good cylinder (e.g., cylinder 4 or 6).

  4. Ensure there are no excessive fuel leaks from the overpressure valve in the rail or the injector transfer tubes, which can sometimes cause secondary plausibility or pressure faults.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical shorts and ensure the EDC is powered down.

  2. Clean area

Clean the area around the fuel rail and cylinder 5 to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

  3. Access injectors

Remove the valve cover if the engine architecture places the injectors under the cover, or simply access the fuel rail if they are externally mounted.

  4. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the cylinder 5 fuel injector.

  5. Remove fuel line

Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to the cylinder 5 injector. Cap the rail fitting to prevent contamination.

  6. Remove hold-down clamp

Remove the injector hold-down clamp or retaining bolt.

  7. Extract injector

Carefully extract the fuel injector from the cylinder head bore.

  8. Clean injector bore

Thoroughly clean the injector bore, ensuring no old copper sealing washers or debris are left behind.

  9. Install new injector

Install the new fuel injector, ensuring a new copper sealing washer and O-ring are used.

  10. Reinstall hold-down clamp

Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the OEM specification.

  11. Reconnect fuel line

Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and torque the fittings to spec.

  12. Reconnect electrical connector

Reconnect the electrical connector to the injector.

  13. Reassemble and reconnect battery

Reassemble any removed covers and reconnect the battery.

  14. Prime fuel system

Prime/bleed the fuel system to remove air.

  15. Clear code and program injector

Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST). Clear the NH 3064 fault code and program the new injector's trim code (IMA code, usually found on the top of the new injector) into the EDC7 controller to ensure proper fueling.
