Technically, this code means the engine control module is unable to detect the electrical signal from the fuel injector on cylinder #5. The controller has detected an open circuit, a short to ground, or a complete failure of the injector's internal solenoid. Because the ECU cannot communicate with or actuate the injector, cylinder 5 will not receive fuel, resulting in an engine misfire, rough running, and a derate/shutdown condition.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness routing from the Engine ECU to the cylinder 5 injector for rubbed-through insulation, melted wires, or pinch points against the engine block or valve cover.

   Disconnect the harness at the cylinder 5 injector and at the ECU. Check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or oil intrusion inside the connectors.

   Using a digital multimeter, check the continuity of the two wires for cylinder 5 from the ECU connector to the injector connector. Then, check both wires for a short to ground (engine block) and a short to voltage.

   Prep the Machine

   Reinstall the high-pressure fuel line (leave the injector side slightly loose if bleeding is required, though many modern systems self-bleed). Torque all fuel lines. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reinstall the valve cover (using a new gasket if applicable). Turn on the battery disconnect, prime the fuel system, and start the engine.

   Clear Codes

   Use a diagnostic tool (like the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the NH 3067 fault code and, if required by the specific ECU, program the new injector's trim code (IQA code) into the module.
