New Holland NH 3071 – Engine ECU: Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 3 - NO SIGNAL

The engine control system is not detecting the expected electrical signal from the fuel injector on cylinder 3, specifically because the high-side circuit of the injector wiring is shorted to ground.

   Visually inspect the engine wiring harness connecting the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 3 fuel injector for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points against the engine block.

   Disconnect the harness at the Cylinder 3 injector and at the ECU. Test the high-side wire for continuity to ground to determine if the harness is shorted.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the Cylinder 3 injector solenoid. Compare the reading to OEM specifications to determine if the internal solenoid is shorted.

   Inspect the ECU and injector connector pins for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could disrupt the signal.

   Safety First

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Injector

   Remove any engine covers or intake piping necessary to access the fuel rail and the Cylinder 3 fuel injector.

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Cylinder 3 injector.

   Repair the Wiring (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the wiring harness, carefully open the wire loom, locate the damaged section of the high-side wire, and repair it using heat-shrink butt connectors or replace the engine harness section.

   Replace the Injector (If Applicable)

   If the wiring tests perfectly but the injector solenoid fails the resistance test, the injector must be replaced. Depressurize the fuel system, remove the high-pressure fuel line to Cylinder 3, unbolt the injector hold-down clamp, and extract the injector. Install the new injector with new O-rings and copper sealing washers.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the fuel lines (torquing to OEM spec), plug in the electrical connector, and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool to the machine, clear the NH 3071 fault code, and run the engine to ensure the code does not return and the cylinder fires correctly.
