New Holland NH 3079 – EDC7: Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 2 - NO SIGNAL

Issue description

The engine control module is failing to detect the expected electrical feedback from the fuel injector on the second cylinder, preventing the injector from firing properly.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Cylinder 2 injector for visible chafing, melting, or breaks (potential short to ground on the high side).

  2. Disconnect the connector at the Cylinder 2 injector and at the EDC7 ECU. Check for water ingress, corrosion, backed-out pins, or damaged terminals.

  3. Using a digital multimeter, check the injector cable for continuity from the ECU pin to the injector connector. Test the high-side wire for a short circuit to ground (chassis) or a short to battery voltage.

  4. Measure the resistance across the terminals of the Cylinder 2 injector solenoid. Compare the reading to a known good injector or the OEM specification to determine if the solenoid is internally open or shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Access the Injector

    Remove the engine covers or valve covers necessary to access the fuel injectors and the engine wiring harness.

  3. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic tests revealed a short to ground or a broken wire in the harness, repair the damaged section using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the entire injector wiring harness if the damage is extensive.

  4. Injector Replacement (If Faulty)

    Clean the area around the Cylinder 2 injector thoroughly to prevent debris from entering the engine block. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line (injector pipe) for Cylinder 2. Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the faulty injector. Install the new injector with new O-rings and copper sealing washers. Torque the hold-down bolt to OEM specifications. Install the high-pressure fuel line and torque to spec.

  5. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical connector to the injector. Reinstall any removed covers.

  6. System Bleed & Test

    Reconnect the battery. Bleed the fuel system if required by the specific engine manual. Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the NH 3079 fault code. Start the engine and verify smooth operation without the code returning.
