New Holland NH 3081 – Engine Controller (Bosch EDC7 ECU): Injector solenoid valve Cylinder 4 - SOURCE HIGH
Issue description
A short circuit in the fuel injector cable for Cylinder 4. Specifically, the system has detected a short circuit on the low side of the circuit to the battery (voltage source).

Check the cause
Visual Harness Inspection: Inspect the fuel injector wiring harness, specifically tracing the wires for the Cylinder 4 injector back to the EDC7 ECU (Connector A, which controls the electro-injectors). Look for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to a 12V/battery source.
Multimeter Testing: Disconnect the ECU and the injector. Use a multimeter to check for continuity to battery voltage on the low-side wire of the Cylinder 4 injector circuit.
Injector Solenoid Check: Test the Cylinder 4 injector solenoid for an internal short circuit by measuring its resistance and comparing it to a known good injector on the same engine.
ECU Connector Inspection: Check the 36-way EDC7 ECU connector pins for corrosion, bent pins, or fluid ingress (water or oil), which are common causes of short-circuit faults.
Repair steps
Power down and disconnect battery
Power down the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical damage.
Access components
Gain access to the engine valve cover and the EDC7 Engine Control Unit.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the injector harness from the Cylinder 4 injector and the ECU.
Repair or replace wiring harness
If a short is found in the wiring harness during diagnostics, either repair the damaged section of the wire using proper soldering and heat-shrink tubing, or replace the entire fuel injector wire harness.
Replace ECU connector
If the harness connector at the ECU is damaged or heavily corroded, splice in a new EDC7 36-way repair harness loom.
Replace fuel injector
If the harness tests good but the fault persists, the Cylinder 4 fuel injector is likely shorted internally and must be replaced.
Reconnect and verify
Reconnect all components, reconnect the battery, and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Run the engine to verify the repair.
