This code indicates a loss of communication or a timeout of the CAN message TSC1-TE (Torque Request). It is often a 'ghost code' generated due to normal shutdown timing differences between the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and the tractor's Vehicle Control Module (XCM).

   Check for accompanying codes 3096 (CAN A Hardware - NO SIGNAL) or 3097 (CAN B Hardware - NO SIGNAL)

   If codes 3096/3097 are present, inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the XCM for continuity, shorts, or corrosion

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the electronic service tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

   Pull all active and stored fault codes from the Engine ECU and XCM.

   Clear codes and verify (Scenario A - No other codes)

   If NH 3099 is the only code present, no repair is necessary. Clear the fault code from the memory, as it was caused by normal shutdown timing differences. Cycle the key to verify the code does not return upon startup.

   Inspect and repair CAN bus (Scenario B - Codes 3096 or 3097 present)

   Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the harness connectors at the Engine ECU and the XCM. Inspect the pins for pushed-out terminals, moisture, or corrosion. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins to verify the integrity of the terminating resistors (should read approximately 60 ohms). Repair any damaged wiring in the CAN harness. Reconnect all modules, restore battery power, and clear the codes.
