New Holland NH 3100 – Engine ECU: CAN TSC1_AE Control - SOURCE LOW
Issue description
A Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error where the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects a low voltage or short-to-ground condition on the CAN bus circuit responsible for the 'TSC1_AE' (Torque Speed Control - Agricultural Equipment) message.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- T5000
- T6000
- T7000
- TL Series
- TLA Series
- TS Series
- TSA Series
- TM Series
Check the cause
Check for accompanying 'ghost' codes (NH 3096 or NH 3097) which can be generated due to normal shutdown timing differences between the Engine ECU and the XCM.
Perform a CAN Bus Resistance Test with the battery disconnected by measuring resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port (should read approximately 60 ohms).
Inspect the wiring harness routing between the XCM and the Engine ECU for chafing against the engine block or frame.
Inspect the ECU and XCM connectors for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Repair steps
Clear and Verify
If the code only appears during machine shutdown and is accompanied by NH 3096/3097, clear the codes using a diagnostic tool. Run the machine to see if the code returns during normal operation. If it does not, no physical repair is needed (though a dealer software update for the ECU/XCM may resolve the timing mismatch).
Isolate the Short
If the code is active during operation, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Disconnect Modules
Unplug the harness connectors at both the Engine ECU and the XCM to isolate the wiring.
Test for Ground Short
Using a multimeter, test the CAN High and CAN Low wires for continuity to the chassis ground.
Repair Harness
If a short to ground is found, trace the harness to locate the chafed wire. Repair the wire using weather-sealed butt connectors and heat shrink, or replace the affected harness section.
Clean and Reassemble
Spray the ECU and XCM connector pins with electrical contact cleaner. Allow them to dry, apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector seals, and reconnect them.
Final Test
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and start the tractor. Verify that the engine responds properly to throttle/torque requests and that the code does not return.
