   Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the XCM for chafing, rodent damage, or loose connections

   If codes 3096 or 3097 are present alongside 3101, clear the codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or diagnostic scanner. Cycle the key and operate the machine to see if the code returns.

   Access the Modules

   If the code is active and returns, locate the Engine ECU (typically mounted on or near the engine) and the XCM (often located under the Electronic Draft Control panel in the right-hand console or cab).

   Inspect Connectors

   Disconnect the wiring harness at both the Engine ECU and the XCM. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

   Test CAN Bus Continuity

   Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the Engine ECU and the XCM. Check for high resistance, open circuits, or a short to ground/power.
