NH 3106

New Holland NH 3106 – Engine Controller (ENG) / Engine ECU: Fuel pressure signal - NO SIGNAL

Issue description

The control module is not receiving any voltage or data signal from the fuel rail pressure sensor. Because there is no signal, the system cannot monitor the fuel pressure in the common rail, which will typically force the engine into a derated "limp mode" to protect the fuel injection system.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the fuel rail pressure sensor on the fuel rail and visually inspect if the 3-pin connector is unplugged, loose, or heavily contaminated with dirt or moisture.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the sensor back to the Engine ECU for chafed wires, broken wires (open circuit), or melted insulation.

  3. Disconnect the sensor and check the pins inside the connector for corrosion or pushed-back terminals.

  4. With the key ON (engine off), use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V reference power and ground from the ECU. If power and ground are present but the signal wire has no continuity to the ECU, the harness is the issue. If the wiring is perfectly intact, the sensor itself has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Turn off the engine and allow the machine to sit so the high-pressure fuel system can depressurize. Warning: Never crack a high-pressure fuel line while the engine is running or immediately after shutdown.

  2. Disconnect the Battery

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Remove the Sensor

    Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector from the fuel rail pressure sensor. Use a wrench to carefully unscrew the sensor from the common fuel rail.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM fuel pressure sensor into the rail by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  5. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor until it clicks securely. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

    Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner to clear the NH 3106 fault code and reset the engine from limp mode.

  7. Test Run

    Start the engine, check the sensor fitting for any fuel leaks, and verify that the fault code does not return.
